Some thoughts on second hand clothes shopping
I’ve been gradually increasing my "pre-loved" (i.e. second hand) wardrobe over the past 2 years. I have found some great shops, in my area and online, which sell second hand clothing in very good if not excellent condition. Through the process of decluttering my own wardrobe, I have also sold/exchanged some of my clothes that I wasn't wearing, which has really helped to reduce the guilt associated with the whole decluttering process.
In particular, I have found that it is a great way of buying high quality, high end clothes that are otherwise very expensive to buy. Items such as winter coats or dressy clothing are particularly good value and easier to find in my experience. I personally find it difficult to get trousers that are a good fit (that's probably just me!) and I tend to have much better luck finding tops and outerwear.
I wasn't sure how I felt about buying second hand shoes - I had smelly second hand runners in my mind! However, I recently bought my first pair of second hand shoes, which I'm absolutely delighted with. There is no sign that they have ever been worn and they still had a sale sticker on the inside! Amazingly, you will often see beautiful clothes for sale second hand that still have the shop tags on them. Good for those of us willing to make the extra effort to search out these treasures!
All in all, this is a great way to have a more sustainable wardrobe and to also pass on clothes that you no longer wear and have just become clutter for you.
